Thursday, February 15th:

Petit Branch, Art Exhibit: Encaustic Paintings and Mixed Works by Lydia Benscher
on display through Wed., Feb. 28th. Encaustic is much like oil or acrylic
paint. It is made of pigment, beeswax, and resin; resin acts as a hardener; encaustic
is heated in order to apply it as paint. Encaustic has been used by artists
for thousands of years, and portraits from Coptic Egypt still exist in museums
today. The paintings and drawings exhibit people and things; some of the pieces
are narrative. They show how encaustics animate through color and texture.
