ENJOY NATURE with WINTER ACTIVITIES & OUTINGS

ICE SKATING:
Clinton Square –  The rink is an open-air facility and will be open through March 11th, weather permitting, please call 423-0129.  The rink has warming room facilities.  Skate rental is available for a $3.00 fee. All youth 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Mon. – Thurs.: 11am – 8pm; Fri. & School Breaks: 11am – 8:30pm; Sat.: 10am – 8:30pm; Sun.: 10am – 8pm.  Admission: $3, $2 for 12 and younger and seniors (55+). Wednesday are FREE!!! Call for details!
Meachem Rink – West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse.  Recreation & Youth Programs operates the skating rink at Meachem which is an indoor facility open through March 30th.  Open Skate Hours: Tues. – Fri. 12:15pm – 3:15pm; Fri. & Sat. 7:15pm – 10pm.  Please call 492-0179 in advance to confirm hours as there are many hockey tournaments/make-up games throughout the season that may interfere with open skate hours. Regular Admission: $3.00, $2.00 for 12 and younger and seniors (55+).  Skate rental: $3. Lunch Special: $4 includes admission, skate rental & free hot chocolate.  Senior Skate(55+): Fridays 9am – 11:45am;  $1 admission includes free coffee or hot chocolate.  Skate & Shoot: Skaters can practice their hockey skills or enjoy pick-up games; must have own equipment and helmets; Thurs. 9am -11:45am and Sat. 10:30am – 1:30pm; $3 admission.
Sunnycrest Rink – 698 Robinson Street, Syracuse.  The skating rink is an indoor facility open through March 30th.  Open Skate Hours: Mon. & Tues. 12:15pm – 4:30pm; Wed. 12pm – 5:30pm and 7:15pm – 10pm; Thurs. 12pm – 4:30pm; Fri. 12pm – 4:30pm and 7:15pm – 10pm; Sat. 1;45pm – 6:45pm and 7pm – 10pm; Sun.  1:30pm -5:30pm and 7:15 -10pm. Please call 473-4696  in advance to confirm hours as there are many hockey & broomball tournaments throughout the season that may interfere with open skate hours. Hours subject to change. Skating admission: $3.00, $2.00 for 12 and younger and seniors (55+).   Skate rental: $3.  Lunch Special (Mon. – Fri., excluding Wed.) until 4pm: $4 admission includes skate rental & free hot chocolate.  Wed: Free admission.  Senior Skate (55+): Thurs. 9am – 11:45am, $1.00 includes admission and free coffee or hot chocolate (skate rental is not included).

SNOWSHOEING:
Beaver Lake Nature Center – 8477 E. Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville.  “Try Snowshoeing” clinic offered every Sat. & Sun. 12:30 p.m. in January & February. Clinic includes instruction and a short snowshoe hike. Folks with little or no snowshoe experience will especially enjoy this one-hour introduction for $3 per person. Call that morning to pre-register and check conditions, call (315) 638-2519. Snowshoers can enjoy 3 separate trails. Free; $3/parking. Snowshoe rentals are $3 for the first hour; $2 for each additional hour. Rentals 9am-3:30pm, must be returned by 4 pm.  Moonlight Snowshoeing – trails are available for use until 9pm (Provided there is adequate snowcover). February 22nd – 24th: Guided evening snowshoeing call for reservations.
Highland Forest – 1254 Highland Forest Rd., Fabius.  All levels of snowshoers are offered a variety of trails to enjoy: 1 mile loop, 2 mile loop, 3.6 mile loop, 7.75 and a 9 mile loop.  Open Daily: March – November: 8:30am – 5:30pm, December – February: 8:30am – 4:30pm.  Rentals are available from 9am – 3pm daily, snow conditions permitting.  All equipment must be returned by 4pm.  Snowshoes: $3 for the first hour, $2 each additional hour.  Admission:$1 per person: 21 years and under free, $10 annual pass (for hiking & snowshoeing)
Sunnycrest Park – 698 Robinson Street, Syracuse.  More than 2.5 miles of groomed trails start at the Sunnycrest Ski Lodge (Hickok Ave entrance). For more information or to verify the Lodge is open please call (315)463-4398 (Ski Lodge).  Trail Hours: open 7 days a week dawn to dusk, weather permitting.  Lodge Hours: Sat. & Sun. 10 am – 5pm/ Winterfest Week 10am – 5pm.  Admission Fees (Sat. & Sun.) CROSS COUNTRY SKIING:
Highland Forest -1254 Highland Forest Road, Fabius. Daily, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Highland Forest features 20 miles of trails, 11 of which are groomed and track set daily, offering a variety of challenges for many different levels of skiing ability. There are cut-offs at each trail if you want to decrease the distance. Park maps available at Skyline Lodge which also serves food and drink on weekends and a volunteer Nordic Ski Patrol monitors the trails. Cross Country Ski lessons available, weather permitting, Sat. & Sun., mid Dec. – mid March and daily during school breaks. Lessons available 9am, by appointment only, & from 12noon-3:30pm on a first come, first served basis; $20 fee includes a 90 minute rental; lesson is $10 with own equipment. Call (315) 683-5550 or visit the park office at Skyline Lodge. Cross Country Ski Trail Use: $5/daily ski trail users 16 and older; $2/ski trail users 15 and under. Rentals are available from 9am – 3pm, snow conditions permitting. All equipment must be returned by 4pm.  Skis, Boots & Poles- Adult: $15/full day, or $10 / 90 minutes; Age 15 and under: $10/full day or $6 / 90 minutes. Boots- $6 / full day. Poles- $3 / full day. Skis- $8 / full day.
Beaver Lake Nature Center – 8477 E. Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville.  Beaver Lake offers 7 miles of ski trails. All ski trails are rated easy with the exception of the Three Meadows Trail which is rated moderate. Trails are one way on weekends. Please note: Beaver Lake does not rent skis, you need to bring your own.  Cross-Country Ski Lessons are available by appointment only and you must bring your own skis. Hours: 7:30am – call for closing time.  Admission: $3 per car. Onondaga Lake Park – 106 Lake Drive, Liverpool.  (315) 453-6712. November-March: 6am-sunset. Enjoy Cross Country Skiing on the Shoreline Trails or at the Long Branch Loop.
Oneida Shores Park – 9400 Bartell Road, Brewerton. Enjoy Cross Country Skiing on the McKinley Ridge Trail, approximately 3/4 mile long, marked with yellow diamond trail markers, and traveling around the ridge between the Cicero Swamp and the McKinley Reserved Area. It is a beginner level trail, with only two small inclines to

Four Seasons Ski Center – Rt. 5, Fayetteville.  Introduction lessons avalible Thurs.and Sat. by appoitment only.  No trail fees. Equipment available for rental w/use in other surrounding areas- Green Lakes State Park, Beaver Lake, Highland Forest County Parks. Rental deposit required with rental fee. SLEDDING and TOBAGGANING:
Highland Forest – 1254 Highland Forest Road, Fabius. Daily, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Use the 500 ft. long slope of Skyline Hill however the hill is unsupervised.
Long Branch Park – 3813 Long Branch Rd, Liverpool.  Located at the northern end of Onondaga Lake Park, the 100 ft. sledding hill is open daily 10am-5pm.

SNOWBOARDING and ALPINE SKIING:

SKATEBOARDING:
Onondaga Lake Skatepark – 107 Lake Drive, Liverpool. The 16,900-sq. ft park is concrete and built for inline skates, skateboards and BMX bikes and is open for anyone older than age 5. Helmets must be worn, and waivers (available at -6712. the park) must be signed by a parent. All sessions are integrated. Outside temperature must be above 40 and the skatepark must be completely dry.  $3/session; $29/monthly pass; $99/season pass. Nov. 1 – March 31 Hours:12pm – 4pm. Info: (315)453-6712.

WILDLIFE VIEWING:
Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge – 3395 Route 20, Seneca Falls. Every Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. & Sat.-Sun. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Trails and the Wildlife Drive auto-tour route are open to visitors. Free. 568-5987.
Rosamond Gifford Zoo – One Conservation Place, Syracuse.  Open daily 10am – 4:30pm. The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is open year round and is home to more than 700 animals of all shapes.  Winter is a fantastic time to view the animals where all of the outside exhibits feature animals that were chosen for their ability to adapt to the region’s climate.  For guests who prefer warmer temperatures, 60 percent of the exhibits are indoors, making the zoo a great destination even on cold and snowy days. “Snow Leopard Days” winter admission: $4/adults, $2.50/seniors, $2/youth, free/ages 2 and younger.
