ENJOY NATURE with WINTER ACTIVITIES & OUTINGS
Clinton Square – The rink is an open-air facility and will be open through March 11th, weather permitting, please call 423-0129. The rink has warming room facilities. Skate rental is available for a $3.00 fee. All youth 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. All children under 18 not allowed after dark without paerntal supervision. Please have photo ID available. Family Night Special: Mon. – Thurs. 4pm – 8pm; $15 admission, includes skate rentals. Lunch Time Skate Mon. – Fri. 11am – 1:30pm: $1.50 admission, $2.50 admission and skate rental. Hours of operation: Mon. – Thurs.: 11am – 8pm; Fri. & School Breaks: 11am – 8:30pm; Sat. 10am – 8:30pm; Sun.: 10am – 8pm. Admission: $3, $2 for 12 and younger and seniors (55+). Skate rental $3. Meachem Rink – West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse. Recreation & Youth Programs operates the skating rink at Meachem which is an indoor facility open through March 21st (closed Feb. 28 & March 1). Open Skate Hours: Tues. – Fri. 12:15pm – 3:15pm: Lunch Special: $4 includes admission, skate rental & free hot chocolate. Fri. & Sat. 7:15pm – 10pm: Regular Admission: $3.00, $2.00 for 12 and younger and seniors (55+). Skate rental: $3. Senior Skate(55+): Fridays 9am – 11:45am; $1 admission includes free coffee or hot chocolate. Skate & Shoot: Skaters can practice their hockey skills or enjoy pick-up games; must have own equipment and helmets; Thurs. 9am -11:45am and Sat. 10:30am – 1:30pm; $3 admission. Sunnycrest Rink – 698 Robinson Street, Syracuse. The skating rink is an indoor facility open through March 31st. Open Skate Hours: Mon. & Tues. 12:15pm – 4:30pm; Wed. 12pm – 5:30pm and 7:15pm – 9:30pm; Thurs. 12pm – 4:30pm; Fri. 12pm – 4:30pm and 7:15pm – 10pm; Sat. 1:45pm – 6:45pm and 7pm – 10pm; Sun. 1:30pm -5:30pm. Please call 473-4696 in advance to confirm hours as there are many hockey & broomball tournaments throughout the season that may interfere with open skate hours. Hours subject to change. Beaver Lake Nature Center – 8477 E. Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville. Enjoy 3 separate trails, the Northern Exposure (1.4 miles) & the Southern Exposure (2.2 miles.) While the Southern has more hilly spots, the Northern offers a flatter trail and both go through open fields and wooded areas. The Pine Meadow Trail (0.5 miles) is also available. “Try Snowshoeing” clinic offered every Sat. & Sun. at 12:30pm in January & February. Clinic includes instruction and a short snowshoe hike. Folks with little or no snowshoe experience will especially enjoy this one-hour introduction for $5 per person. Registration is required beginning at 8am on the day of the clinic, call (315)638-2519. Snowshoe rentals are $5 per hour; rentals 9am-3:30pm, must be returned by 4pm. Trails open from 7:30am – 5pm. Admission is $4 per vehicle.
Highland Forest – 1254 Highland Forest Rd., Fabius. All levels of snowshoers are offered 6 trails of varying lengths: .5 miles to 8. 7 miles. Park maps are available at Skyline Lodge. Open Daily: March – November: 8:30am – 5:30pm, December – February: 8:30am – 4:30pm. Rentals are available from 9am – 3pm daily, snow conditions permitting. All equipment must be returned by 4pm. Snowshoes: $10 Adult all day; $5 Child (15 & under) all day. Admission:$3 per person: $20 annual pass (for hiking & snowshoeing)
Sunnycrest Park – Hickok Ave at Caleb, Syracuse. More than 2.5 miles of groomed trails, bringing shoeshoers along a loop that includes Sunnycrest golf course and some wooded areas. Trails start at the Sunnycrest Ski Lodge. Parking is available at the Ski Lodge and Ice Rink. Trails available December to March, as snow conditions permit. Trail Hours: Trails open 7 days a week dawn to dusk, weather permitting. Lodge Hours: Sat. & Sun. 10am – 4pm, Winterfest Week: Mon. – Fri. 11 am – 3pm. Admission Fees (Sat. & Sun., School Breaks) General Admission: $2, Junior/Senior Admission: $1. Season Pass: $15, Junior/Senior Pass $10. Snowshoe Rental Package (incl. admission): $4, 12 and under: $1, Student package: $2.50.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING:
Highland Forest – 1254 Highland Forest Road, Fabius. Daily, 8:30am – 4:30pm. Features 40 miles of trails, 20 of which are groomed and track set for all ability levels, and 3 skate ski loops. There are cut-offs at each trail if you want to decrease the distance. Park maps available at Skyline Lodge which also serves food and drink on weekends and a volunteer Nordic Ski Patrol monitors the beautiful snow covered trails. Trail Use: Ski Day Pass – $10; $5 child (15 & under) Ski Season Pass: $25; $15 child (15 & under). Rental Shop open daily, snow conditions permitting. Rentals available from 9am – 3pm, all equipment must be returned by 4pm. Skis, Boots & Poles package – $15 Adult all day; $10 child (15 & under) all day; Individual Items (Skis, Boots & Poles) $7 per item. Ski lessons available, weather permitting, Sat. & Sun., mid Dec. – February, by appointment only; $25 includes equipment rental; lesson $10 with own equipment; Day Pass required. Beaver Lake Nature Center – 8477 E. Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville. Offers 7 miles of ski trails; all trails rated easy except Three Meadows Trail which is rated moderate. Trails are one-way on weekends. Please note: Beaver Lake does not rent skis, you need to bring your own. Cross-Country Ski Lessons are available by appointment only. Onondaga Lake Park – 106 Lake Drive, Liverpool. (315) 453-6712. November – March: 10am-5pm. Enjoy Cross Country Skiing on the Shoreline Trails or at the Long Branch Loop. Bring your own equipment.
Oneida Shores Park – 9400 Bartell Road, Brewerton. Enjoy Cross Country Skiing on the McKinley Ridge Trail, approximately 3/4 mile long, marked with yellow diamond trail markers, and traveling around the ridge between the Cicero Swamp and the McKinley Reserved Area. It is a beginner level trail, with only two small inclines to

Sunnycrest Park – Hickok Ave at Caleb, Syracuse. Did you know that Sunnycrest Park is home to more than 2.5 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails? When enough snow blankets the park, the trails bring skiers along a loop that includes Sunnycrest golf course and some wooded areas. Trails are maintained by the City of Syracuse Parks Department. Trails start at the Sunnycrest Ski Lodge (Hickok Ave entrance). Parking is available at the Ski Lodge and Ice Rink. Skiing is available December to March, snow conditions permitting. Free learn-to-ski clinics 11:30am on Sundays. Trail Hours: Trails open 7 days a week dawn to dusk, weather and conditions permitting. Ski Lodge Hours: Sat. & Sun. 10am – 4pm, when snow conditions permit. February School Break: Mon. – Fri. 10am – 3pm. SLEDDING and TOBOGGANING:
Highland Forest – 1254 Highland Forest Road, Fabius. Daily, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Use the 300 ft. long slope of Skyline Hill, however please note the hill is unsupervised.
Long Branch Park – Liverpool. (315) 453-6712. Located just north of Onondaga Lake Park, the 100 ft. sledding hill is open daily 10am-5pm, conditions permitting. Note: sledding hill is not supervised.
Stone Quarry Hill Art Park – Cazenovia. A massive slope for sledders of all ages.
Town of Van Buren Park – The hill in Baldwinsville is open daily to the public.
Strawberry Hill – Sullivan Park, 707 Legion Drive, Chittenango.
SNOWBOARDING, TUBING and ALPINE SKIING:

Onondaga Lake Skatepark – 107 Lake Drive, Liverpool. The 16,900-sq. ft park is concrete and is open to inline skates, skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes. Come and test your skills on its features like the 8ft. deep Liberty Bowl, 7 Stair Gap, 4.5 ft. high Ledge, or 3.5 ft. high volcano. There are also quarter pipes, grind rails,spines, hips and gaps to challenge every skater or biker. The facility is open for anyone older than age 5. Helmets must be worn, and waivers (available at the park) must be signed by a parent. All sessions are integrated. Rosamond Gifford Zoo – One Conservation Place, Syracuse. Daily 10am – 4:30pm. Founded in 1914, the zoo is among the top 10% of zoos in this country as an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The zoo is open year round and is home to more than 700 animals of all shapes & sizes. Celebrate “Snow Leopard Days” throughout February! Winter is a fantastic time to view the animals where all of the outside exhibits feature animals that were chosen for their ability to adapt to the region’s climate. For guests who prefer warmer temperatures, 60 percent of the exhibits are indoors, making the zoo a great destination even on cold and snowy days. “Snow Leopard Days” half price admission: $4 Adults(19-61), $2.50 Seniors (62+), $2 Youth (3-18), Free ages 2 & younger.
