LAKE EFFECT HALF-MARATHON AND FREE MOOSE MILE FUN RUN – 9:30am; Onondaga Lake Park. Featuring a flat 3.3 mile out and back, spectator-friendly course which is run twice to get to 13.1miles. Runners can use the event as a tune-up to check on fitness level for other goal races in spring or summer such full marathon or the Syracuse 70.3 Ironman. Registration is FREE and open for the Moose Mile fun run. Proceeds from the race will benefit Ophelia’s Place, a 501(C)3 charity based in Liverpool, NY that supports people dealing with eating disorders, disordered eating and body image issues. CHOWDER COOKOFF – 11am – 3pm; Clinton Square. Presented by the Updowntowners of Syracuse, the cook-off pits area restaurants and others against each other to see who has the best chowder in CNY. The cook off yields some interesting creations as the public will be able to taste for themselves during the public sampling beginning approximately 2;30pm and then vote for the People’s Choice Award. A panel of celebrities will choose the winning entries, and the winners will receive plaques and cash awards. BLOODY MARY MIX-OFF – Noon – 4pm. Downtown area restaurants will compete to see who has the best Bloody Mary Mix in Syracuse. Enjoy the variety as ticket holders will sample these creations and vote for their favorite. Competitors will be judged on taste and presentation. Tickets can be purchased for $5 at any participating restaurant presale or at the GoMini’s in Clinton Square the day of the event. The Winterfest Express will be running during the event or participants can walk to competing restaurants. Wing Walkers can purchase a ticket for $10 pre-sale at participating establishments until Sat., Feb. 20th at 3pm, or for $12 in Clinton Square on the day of the event. The Winterfest Express will be running dring the event or patrons can walk to competing restaurants to sample the wings and vote for their favorite.
