LAKE EFFECT HALF-MARATHON AND FREE MOOSE MILE FUN RUN – 9:30am; Onondaga Lake Park. Featuring a flat 3.3 mile out and back, spectator-friendly course which is run twice to get to 13.1miles. Runners can use the event as a tune-up to check on fitness level for other goal races in spring or summer such full marathon or the Syracuse 70.3 Ironman. The 4th annual Half-Marathon is sold out, but please get on the waiting list for 2016. Registration is FREE and open for the Moose Mile fun run. Proceeds from the race will benefit Ophelia’s Place, a 501(C)3 charity based in Liverpool, NY that supports people dealing with eating disorders, disordered eating and body image issues. The cook off yields some interesting creations as the public will be able to taste for themselves during the public sampling beginning approximately 2;30pm and then vote for the People’s Choice Award. A panel of celebrities will choose the winning entries, and the winners will receive plaques and cash awards. In recognition of Black History Month, travel with William “Jerry” Henry as he escapes slavery in Missouri, seeks safety in New York State and finally finds his freedom in Canada.
